Meera Thirtha
Meera Thirtha is a single mother and lives in India. When she was in her late thirties her husband passed away. With an aging mother and a young daughter to care for, Meera had to work full-time to support the family. Life had become quite stressful after she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, but she had very little time to focus on her health. Despite the financial strain and emotional challenges, she learned to juggle multiple responsibilities thereby adjusting to the new role and circumstances. Just when life was about to gain momentum, Meera’s daughter complained of acute pain in her underarms when she was in her teens. Despite several visits to doctors, multiple surgical procedures, and countless medications, these open wounds would drain all day.
After 3 long years, they finally had a diagnosis on paper. It was a chronic skin ailment known as hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). This inflammatory condition had a profound impact on her physical, emotional, and social life. However, these challenging times have not only strengthened the bond between them but also made them more resilient. Being the only pillar of strength for her daughter, Meera’s journey as a single mother and caregiver has been that of courage, hope, and faith. In her subsequent articles, Ms.Thirtha will be writing about her experiences of helping her daughter deal with this deep-rooted illness.
