IPL Success

I’ve had HS since around age 11 (now 16). I have tried antibiotics - didn’t work; AIP diet- made me extremely weak + using antibacterial washes etc. none of these have worked. I recently managed to convince my mum to buy a Phillips at home IPL device. I’ve been using it on a low setting for my skin tone (medium w dark hair) due to it being sensitive. I’ve only properly tried it on my armpits and arms (as a comparison). I still have a decent amount of hair there but I think it is because of the low intensity as my arms hair growth is very slow now. Today I realised I haven’t had a boil in my armpits since starting!! (I still have other areas with them though) When I started the treatment I had a large hard lump in one armpit which never came to a head, it seems to have gone away by itself! Now I only have scarring left which I am really happy with. I’m going to continue IPL and start in other affected areas. Hope this helps anyone, I think it’s worth a shot.

  1. Hi! Thanks so much for posting this! This has become a popular topic in various patient groups I belong to. Some have experiences quite like yours. My experience is in the same family but only in the form of two lasers, YAG and carbon dioxide. They have much more intense light waves, of course, and the treatment must be done by a dermatologist. Ultimately you are treating your skin, not your hair, but you should notice that your hair regrowth should lighten up and thin as you continue your treatments. You are changing the follicles that the hairs grow out of. Some people shave or cut their hair short before treatments so the light can get to the skin easier. I'm going to attach a study that is from the NIH but was very small, only including 18 people, but showed much promise for those wanting to avoid surgery. ~Chelsea (Team Member) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21788837/
