Mental Health

Mental health is just as important as physical health.. I am now seeing a different side of myself.. I don't know what I am going through.. My anxiety gets worse as another flare is here.. Well I guess I just need to give a little guidance into making sure that we all try and keep ourselves strong.. Talking to people, writing little notes, make sure that you tell yourself that you are strong and brave, beautiful.. Fight everyday to keep the emotions that we are brave and we will keep our heads held high... To battle a flare or many flares at once.. Be your best.. Mental health needs to be strong..

  1. mental health is such an important factor when dealing with HS. I feel like it's severely overlooked. It's hard for us to take care of ourselves with our bodies constantly in a state of change, pain, and drainage.

    1. Hi Marlena! We humans are these complex bundles of hormones, and tonight I was doing a little research, wondering how stress affected those hormones. It seems to be something that comes up almost daily. And wow, there are so many hormones that are thrown off when we are not feeling our best emotionally. We just think about the ones we hear about most often, like estrogen and cortisol and testosterone, but there are so many more than that which dip and skyrocket with just the slightest nudge, and then we're in trouble. Our HS decides it must be party time and then we're REALLY miserable. So yes, leaning how to regulate our stressors is a big deal. I think our routines probably change over time, but what I do right now is sing for about a half hour every day. It has been scientifically proven that the vibrations from singing are therapeutic - kind of like a cat purring, same concept. Lucky for my neighbors, I'm not tone deaf. I hope you continue to seek what makes you feel whole and beautiful. We all need that.

      1. , thank you for sharing! I absolutely I agree with you that mental health is just as important as physical health. Personally, I have noticed that when I'm stressed and and anxious, my flares get worse, so I try to do my best to manage those things. I've found that journaling when I feel anxious helps me clear my head a bit, and makes me feel better about going about the day. Getting out of bed and doing a self-care routine (face masks, hair masks etc.) also helps me feel better about my body on days that HS flares are bad. Sending you lots of strength! ~ Gabby (Team Member)
