Looking for help

I signed up for this site as my 22yr old son suffers from this disease. The first large cyst he got was right below his tailbone when he was in high school. It’s gotten much worse since then. He has several open sores in both armpits. He has sores that start out like boils in his groin area which are now open sores and he gets them on the inner thighs. He’s in a great deal of pain most of the time and my heart breaks for him. The worst thing that has happened is a dermatologist put him on Humira. He ended up in the hospital because the medicine affected his kidneys. The doctors wanted to put him on chemo but after 2weeks his immune system improved enough for him to come home. Unfortunately he ended up back in the hospital for another 2weeks. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear it.

  1. Hello and welcome, ! I think I responded to another of your comments in a different comment thread, but I wanted to be sure to also touch base with you here.

As a parent myself, my heart goes out to you, seeing your son go through the pain and challenges of HS. It is truly heartbreaking to see our kids in pain, and I wish that your son wasn't going through this. What a scary and potentially traumatizing experience too, to have the hospitalizations from Humira complications! The very thing that was hopefully going to give him some relief from the HS, impacting his kidneys and causing more challenges. How are his kidneys doing currently?

There are a lot of different ways that people choose to treat their HS. While some people choose medication, others try more alternative/natural therapies. I'm sharing a link to an article that has information about the various types of treatments, https://hsdisease.com/treatment. And this article goes into more specifics about complementary and alternative treatments, https://hsdisease.com/alternative-treatment. Still others find making lifestyle changes (especially finding any possible food triggers), helpful in managing their symptoms, https://hsdisease.com/diet.

I'm hoping that, in addition to the above articles, some of our community members here can share their expertise and experience with you, because you and your son are not alone! Please don't hesitate to reach out here anytime. Sending both you and your son gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
