Mental Health

How do you take care of your mental health?

  1. Have you ever tried a Manuka Honey Meditation? When it comes to meditation, Manuka honey helps me to focus and relax. The sweetness of the honey can help to ease your mind, while the antibacterial properties can help to keep you calm. To get started, I simply add a spoonful of this Manuka honey https://www.amazon.co.uk/puregold to my favorite tea or coffee. Then, I find a comfortable place to sit or lie down, and start my meditation.

    1. Hi ! I use a number of tricks to help my mental health. I am lucky enough to have health insurance, and I use medications to treat my mental health. The #1 thing I can do is to take my medicines. Sometimes, just that task seems impossible. i also try to take care of my physical needs: drinking water (which I am not good at remembering), making sure I eat a healthy-ish meal, and getting sleep. Sometimes the basic things really do help. I am also in therapy and see a psychiatrist to manage my medications. When I am feeling especially anxious or down, I try to take a mental health day to watch tv and rest. My friends are also a good support system I have. I reach out to them when I am overwhelmed. Lastly, the techniques I have learned in therapy really do help when I remember to use them: making a list and prioritizing 3 tasks for the day, deep breathing, and other tips that I find work for me. These are just some of the things I do to manage my mental health. What have you tried? Is there anything that works for you? -Isela Nataly (Team Member).

      1. Hi Elizabeth! For times when I need a boost, I do things like watch cat and dog videos (I'm unable to have animals) or I sing. But for the heavier stuff I set up counseling through the graduate program at a nearby university. Because of the pandemic they decided not to charge patients their usual fee of $80/semester. Some universities will charge on a sliding fee scale, but most are generally pretty affordable, and a lot are strictly telehealth until we get the all clear. You do have to be in the same state as the school because of licensing laws. I like working with the students because they are fresh-minded and eager, so when their energy is good, I feel that way too.
