Upper Arm Numbness & Pain

Hi,

I have had HS since I was 13/14 and was diagnosed when I was 17. I’ve always had pain but recently for the past few months my right upper arm has been numb and is extremely painful when I move it or sleep. My left upper arm is painful but is not numb like my right arm. My right arm has to to be kept in one position for me to function. I take paracetamol to help ease the pain but it doesn’t help much, only for about 15-30 minutes does it reduce the pain a little but it is still numb. My nurses have wrote to the GP to prescribe painkillers urgently but I don’t know what else I can do to get rid of this pain. My mental health has declined so much because I physically am unable to put on clothes, pick up things, sleep, or even move around and get up. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this. Any help?

  1. Hello, Jiafam. I'm wondering if you can clarify if you have determined this is from HS lesions, or if this is from something else? Usually when someone posts here, they talk about not being able to put their arm down because it presses upon an HS lesion and it hurts too much, but that doesn't seem to be what you are saying. What you are describing to me is an issue with a nerve being pinched, and it would require imaging and testing. The biggest clue to me is that the position of your arm determines the amount of pain you are in - depending on the position, maybe it will send a shocking sensation, or maybe a burning sensation? It is correct that paracetamol would not help this kind of pain. You have to go to the source and find out why that nerve is being irritated. If I am not understanding you and your pain is because of HS lesions, please let me know. We try to stay on topic with HS, but either way I would encourage medical intervention.
