Yeast infection with Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Does anyone get a yeast infection around some of their bumps? I do if they start leaking before I can get them covered and it’s hot. Doesn’t matter how many showers I take or body wash I use, I even rinse in cold water. I just can’t win with this disease.

  1. New to the site, but I get a lot of yeast infections with my HS. Especially under my breasts and right along the bottom of my stomach above my groin where I have a bit of a muffin top🙄. I have a script for Nystop powder which helps some, and if it gets really bad ( and it does because I live in Florida where it is almost always hot and humid) I also have a script for Diflucan tablets. Just make sure that if you use any over the counter powders they do not contain corn starch! Many do, but my doc says that they can actually contribute to more yeast growing! I found that out the hard way.

    1. Hi FloridaDawn! Yowza, that sounds so uncomfortable! But it's the curse of HS: we fight so hard to kill off the bacteria, but we constantly have this stream of it flowing out of us, so we are also dealing with non-stop moisture. But when we kill off the bacteria, the fungi are allowed to flourish. I'm in Arizona, another sun belt state. I have so many tubes of topical meds laying around my bathroom sink that I'm lucky I don't apply the wrong dollop to my toothbrush! Thank you for sharing. 😀 ~Chelsea (Team Member)

    2. I have almost applied some of my many tubes of ointments to my toothbrush early in the morning 🙄. One of these days I probably will... 🤢 Yuck! I do know just how you feel.

  2. I get all the scripts for it, and I too mix my powders and when it stings I know it’s working. Or at least that’s what I tell myself.

    1. Thanks for sharing what works for you AngelT!

  3. Have your doctor write a prescription for Nystatin powder. I mix it with Gold Bond Powder in the green bottle and use a powder puff to apply it. The menthol in the Gold Bond might sting for a few minutes (I think that is way Vicks Vapor Rub works too on HS sores) but it usually clears up any heat rash, drainage and yeast infections or at least makes it more tolerable.
