Comorbidities & Pain with HS

Many people living with HS are also managing other comorbidities. Do you have any other health challenges in addition to HS? Does that impact your HS pain? 💜

  1. My name is Chad Page and I am new here. One of the 4 Dermatologists i have seen said he believes I have what he called "Follicular Occlusion Triad". HS is one of the 3 syndromes that are included in the Triad. He then told me that I am a prime Candidate for the drug "Accutane". I am s ared to take it but at the same time, I am soo over the scarring and the pain. My face gets it the most, then trunk and arms. The tunneling is so bad that i believe all the lesions on my face are connected. Once one seems to finally fade, it just flares up on the other side of my face. I get so frustrated and depressed, I don't know what to do.

    1. Welcome to the community, ! I am so glad that you found us here, although am very sorry to hear that you are dealing with Follicular Occlusion Triad. That certainly sounds like a lot to be managing. I will admit, I don't know anything about Follicular Occlusion Triad, but as far as HS goes, I have not heard of accutane being used for treatment. That being said, just because I have not heard of it doesn't necessarily mean anything (I am not a medical professional). However, here is a link to some information on treatments for HS, https://hsdisease.com/treatment.

Your fear and reluctance to start a new treatment are understandable. I think a lot of people here can relate to those nerves. Treatment is something that everyone has to decide for themselves, weighing the benefits to the possible drawbacks. Has your doctor walked through any of your concerns or reservations you're having?

Please know that our community is here for you and you aren't alone. Managing a chronic condition can have such a big impact on a person, both physically and mentally. I also wanted to share this article with you about skin conditions and mental health, https://hsdisease.com/clinical/skin-mental-health, as mental/emotional health can often get overlooked when dealing with a chronic health condition.

You are going through a lot, so please don't hesitate to reach out here, whether you have questions, need to vent, or could use some support! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
