Completely new to HS

Hi everyone I'm completely new to this whole situation so bare with me 🤣 i have recently been diagnosed with hs and I am currently on antibiotics and a antiseptic wash. So my question is could people just share their experiences with me please e.g treatment, what works for them, things to deffinately avoid, are there things that can make it more manageable, what to expect from daily life...just in general any information you all have that might make me more informed and my life a little easier and not so worrisome...because I literally know barely anything...thankyou

  1. i appreciate this post. I was also just diagnosed this past wednesday. I've had symptoms for over 6 yrs, though as i remember things reflecting back, it has probably been a good bit longer. Probably more like 15. I have also realized how many different times ive had really bad lesions that ive forgotten about despite scars as a reminder-i tend to forget bad things luckily.
It is nice being able to put a name to it and there seem to be so many resources available. Im considering looking into how much some of the laser treatment might cost...but there is a lot of skin to cover !?

    1. Hi Carys. My dermatologist bills my treatments as lesion destruction, not cosmetic, so it's covered by insurance. If you have insurance, you and your doctor can find out what your co-pay would be. It is not billed as cosmetic because you are not treating your hair, you are treating your skin (basically, you are zapping the bacteria out and you are treating the scar tissue). My doctor uses Pronox gas, like getting gas at the doctor's office, so I don't feel the zaps. I had my entire groin/bottom area done 3 different times. I lined my clothing with feminine pads afterwards - the first 24 hours there is a fair amount of bleeding. My doctor used YAG and carbon dioxide lasers on specific settings, so your doctor will need to make sure everything is correct for you too in order for it to be helpful. ~Chelsea (Team Member)

  2. well, As you have already been diagnosed so you are well aware of the signs and symptoms but what you can do further is the main concern well I am not a medical professional but I have a patient in my family with HS So, i might help you.

AS there is no cure for HS, so you will need to control your health for the rest of your life. And most people can easily manage this. For many people, it is a cycle of rashes and periods when their skin is clear.
HS scars commonly occur in areas where the skin is scratched, such as the armpits and genitals. To recover scars Studies suggest that CO2 laser surgery may help reduce the appearance of HS. But they may be found elsewhere, such as the neck or the scalp. Once the glands are closed, they become filled with fluid and become infected. Then they exploded, and the infection increased.

The following Treatments might help you
Antibiotics are applied to the skin. Mild symptoms may be treated with antibiotics or a gel.
Steroid injections. injected into the ulcers can help reduce inflammation and inflammation.
    Hormonal Therapy.
    Pain medications.
That's i know about HS, i also know the name of the medication but I can't write them here because you should continue the medicine of your own doctor.
    Best of luck.

    1. Hello! This is the club that no one wants to belong to, but I'm glad you found us! I didn't get a diagnosis until having symptoms for 9 years, and that seems to be on the short side compared to others. I was put on Humira and I went from stage I to stage II very quickly, so I went off of it. I am actually on my 5th biologic now and it's working so well for me, because it's treating 3 autoimmune diseases at once - I really needed help on ankylosing spondylitis, which had gone undiagnosed for years and now I'm having a lot of trouble because of that. I'm also on Dupixent because of atopic dermatitis. I also did YAG and carbon dioxide lasers and saw a 70% reduction in my lesions after only 3 treatments. I couldn't laser my whole body, so that's why my backup is the biologic. My dermatologist bills the lasers as lesion destruction, not hair removal, because we are treating my skin, not my hair. I personally have had every treatment that is used for HS with the exception of the wide excision surgery in my underarms. I even had a blue light treatment with an acid that was supposed to be activated by the blue light (I don't recommend it; run the other way!). I'm including a list of treatments and you can do a little research if you'd like. Wishing you all the best, and feel free to ask questions! ~Chelsea (Team Member)
