Has anyone done Clindamycin and Rifamin therapy?

Hi there!

I'm wondering if any of you have had success with 10 weeks of Clindamycin and Rifampin and HS remission?

I just started it today. I'm not looking for medical advice, just if it worked for you(or not), success stories, or any helpful tips. I'm thinking about getting a probiotic, not sure which one yet.

My dermatologist is not an HS specialist, but she said that this therapy is what HS specialists are prescribing, so I'm pretty excited.
She said she saw remission in the patients she's done this with.
I'm trying not to get too excited just in case it doesn't work for me, but it is kind of nice to have hope.

TL/DR: Not looking for medical advice, just if this therapy worked or didn't work for you.

  1. I only use the clindamycin topical for my mild/moderate HS and it has helped so much. Ive not been officially told I'm I remission, but I'm currently between dermatologists. I'm certain that this would be considered remission. It's good stuff. Good luck!

    1. Hi there! It didn't take very long for me to notice a difference. I had a bump that was just starting to emerge when I first started it, and within a week to maybe 10 days the bump was gone 😲 and it stopped hurting after just one or two applications.
Anyhow, I just use it once a day right after showering; I use it any place I have tracks or have previously had an abcess. It's actually a liquid, the bottle has this sort of deodorant-type roller on the top for easy application.

I've had a couple of abcessed that have ended up draining since I started using it, but then again I'm not great about wearing clothes that dont rub, plus I'm in a warm part of the country, so this time of year I'm always sweating. And also, I've been using it about two years now. Without the clindamycin I certainly would have had exponentially more.
Some of you might keep this in mind if money is an issue for you:
I lost my job and thus my private insurance this year, so I had to go on medicaid. They won't cover my dermatologist or the clindamycin (I haven't yet called to ask why or try to argue) - but the Rx is pretty cheap just paying cash, I believe it was $17 for a bottle last time I checked.

Just to throw this out there, I've tried hibaclens many times, but it has never helped me. I can't figure out why, it seems to me like it would be the perfect thing. Just my two cents. 😊

    2. thanks for going into so much detail about your personal experience. It's so great this is helping you, and great it is relatively affordable even when not covered by insurance. As far as the hibaclens goes, isn't it interesting how every person is different? I'm so glad you found something that's been helping you manage the HS and get some relief! And again, we really appreciate you sharing with the community here. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. Hi! This was actually one of the first sets of treatments I received when I had HS years ago. I had an aggressive form of Stage III HS so antibiotics did absolutely nothing for me. The idea, I believe, is for it to lower inflammation but it goes a lot deeper than taking antibiotics. Plus, I found that being on antibiotics for prolonged periods of time really messes with your microbiome which actually, in my experience, building that up has helped to heal my HS actually. So, it didn't work for me. The only thing that got my HS under control was finding my triggers through food and influences in my enviroment.

    1. Hey - this is really exciting! I am glad to see your dermatologist is working with you on this combination therapy. And while you wait for others to chime in with personal experience, I thought I would share a couple of studies that I found that might be of interest to you:
