How do you juggle the pain with work?

Hi, I’m new here. First post. Anyways, I was properly diagnosed about 4 months ago when I had one burst in my groin area (it’s actually still open but they did a steroid injection into it) and it’s an open wound, a little bit bigger than a pencil in diameter. I have about 3 others that were that size but they’ve closed off with scar tissue. They are still under there, just not draining.

This one that I have though is so infected that my lymph node is swollen too. Hurts to walk, when it drains a bit I feel weak and dizzy. I have a hard time working because it’s in such an awkward spot I can’t walk comfortably. Sometimes it feels like it’s pinching a nerve almost. I don’t know what else to do. I’m losing money but I’m also hurting myself more not giving them a rest. What should I do?

  1. The crazy thing is, is my dermatologist said there isn’t much they can do except having me start cosentix which, I’ve heard mixed reviews on.

    1. oh I'm sorry that your dermatologist wasn't able to offer other ideas aside from Cosentyx. People certainly have varying experiences and ideas about going on biologics, and your hesitation is understandable. You have to decide what you're most comfortable with and what feels right for you. That being said, please don't hesitate to seek out a second opinion (if that's feasible for you) if this doctor isn't willing to work with you on treatment ideas because there are a lot of different ways to try to treat HS before jumping into biologics. I'll share the link with more information on medication options, in case you're interested, https://hsdisease.com/medication. In either case, please know that our community is here for you, so don't hesitate to reach out any time. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

  2. Oh dear, , I can hear how much pain you're in, and how challenging this has been for you. First of all, I do want to welcome you to our site and community. I'm so glad that you've found us here and I hope that you can get the support and information that you're looking for.

If you haven't already, I would really encourage you to reach out to your doctor about how much pain you're in, both to walk as well as the weakness and dizziness you're experiencing. We can not give you medical advice (for your safety) so I can not tell you exactly what to do, but I will share an article here with some information with some ideas for home remedies, https://hsdisease.com/home-remedies. Also, this article includes some alternative therapies, https://hsdisease.com/alternative-treatment.

Also, as you mention being relatively newly diagnosed, I thought you might be interested in this article one of our advocates put together with some of her advice, https://hsdisease.com/living/advice-diagnosed.
