How HS affects osteo-arthritis

Looking for some answers as to how HS works to make OA worse. Just diagnosed with arthritis, have had an HS diagnosis for 20 years. I hit menopause and it seems to have slowed down the HS but accelerated the arthritis. Stopped taking doxycycline many years ago and I'm not sure if it would help my arthritis. Would appreciate any interesting tips. Thanks!

  1. Thanks so much for reaching out, . You bring up a good question and, unfortunately, I'm not sure that I have a good answer. I did some digging about HS and OA, and came across was this overview of a study with HS and OA, https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38173729/. It certainly doesn't have the "why" but it does indicate that people with HS have a higher risk of developing OA.

Hopefully some community members here can share any experiences they have with managing both HS and osteoarthritis. Also, if you haven't already, I would encourage you to reach out to your doctor. They should be able to tell you what might be helpful for your arthritis and whether or not doxycycline would be an option.

Sorry I could not be more specifically helpful. If you're comfortable, please keep us posted and let us know if you get some helpful information from your doctor.
