Is this HS?

In the 1990s, I discovered a nodule in my groin area about the size of a garbanzo bean. Terrified, I went to a doctor who brushed it off as nothing. In 2010, I was diagnosed with a benign giant cell tumor, but the oncologist wanted to do a full body scan. He asked me about the cyst in my groin, but made a joke about it. “I wouldn’t know what to do about that.” In 2022, it started spotting, then leaking. It’s been leaking for the past year. I I don’t know if it’ll ever stop now that it’s started. Does this sound like HS?

  1. Hello! We do want to caution you about trying to diagnose this over the internet, and we do have community rules that specifically state that in our discussions, medical advice cannot be offered. A visit to a specialist is definitely warranted. That being said, I am attaching an article that explains hidradenitis suppurativa, and includes an actual photo. I would caution against drawing a conclusion that this is HS until you get a professional diagnosis, as there are so many factors that play a part. We wish you the very best in your search for answers as we know how frustrating it can be to have a big question mark still being unanswered. ~Chelsea (Team Member) https://hsdisease.com/why-bumps-form

    1. I feel kind of lucky right know that it didn’t bother me too much for years. When it started growing larger, I dreaded flying because I was always stopped by the TSA. I wonder what they thought it was because I didn’t know what it was. The last doctor I saw thought it was a hernia after he saw it and went, “Oh my God!” I guess I’ll be looking for a dermatologist. Thank you for you pr reply.

      1. This sounds like it may be a flareup. I have a few flareups that never completely heal. They will not leak or drain for months and then they bleed or have pus. With stage 3HS you get something called tunnels which look like or could be considered nodules. I would suggest going to a dermatologist, because lots of doctors don't know much about HS.
