Thoughts on HS treatments

Hi guys,

I am completely new to this forum, sat typing this at 1am as I don’t know what else to do.

My name is Cat, I was diagnosed about 7 years ago maybe longer.

It began by being given antibiotic after antibiotic to the point my immune system felt extremely low.

The antibiotics did not help at all and led to having my first lump removed and left as an open wound to heal.

Since then I’ve had flare ups which I am just given antibiotics for; which doesn’t seem to help, but just delay it coming back and in various places

It started in the groin area but has since moved to my underarm.

I’ve just got to a point where I’m constantly on antibiotics and feeling extremely low and wondered if anyone has been in the same boat and managed to change the cycle?

At current I have one which is amst an open wound as it’s constantly oozing puss but the doctors just don’t seem to know what they are doing

Any advise will be massively appreciated.

Even recommendations on creams / daily routines you’ve found helped would be amazing as I’m starting to feel Ill/low from constant antibiotics and pain from this lump.

  1. Are you seeing a dermatologist? Antibiotics do not help, I feel ya! Have your doctor prescribe you Clindamycin lotion and Spironolactone. You may also benefit from Humira. I used that biologic initially then used Cosentyx and now am getting Remicade infusions. A good daily routine that I also do is taking supplements of tumeric, zinc, and vitamin C and D. I also wash the affected areas with Hibiclens soap.

    1. I don’t know much treatment on HS, seems like just last year a few doctors here in the area that I live in are finally getting educated to the awareness that HS exists.
For me, a routine that I must do for flares to become less are: Hibiclens under my arms, under breasts & groin area. Grooming the areas also seem to help a lot as well.
When I have severe flares where it won’t go away, instead it gets bigger and it immobilizes me, I will know it’s time to go to urgent care and they open & drain the area. I realize in all the areas where I’ve had it open and drained it never comes back to that same spot. I have alot of scars and the procedure hurts like hell, but it’s an instant relief once that pressure of the HS is drained out. But I am between stage 1-2

      1. Hello Elizabeth! It's so difficult when your options are limited. If you are interested, this is a list of the known treatments currently available. I personally have had 3 laser treatments from a dermatologist and it took care of 70% of my areas, and am now on a biologic to control the rest (Xeljanz, not Humira). I went through 4 other biologics before I determined that Xeljanz would work for me. Wishing you the best of luck! ~Chelsea (Team Member) https://hsdisease.com/treatment/goals

    2. I feel your pain, literally. I had surgery to remove an area in December 2019. Ever since it flares up and goes away for roughly a week then comes back with a vengeance. I’m at my wits end. I have an appointment with a dermatologist who is “well versed” in HS on 7/22. I am praying that I’m not just another test case for someone. I need relief.
