Any ideas on dealing with HS and incontinence pads?

I've had HS since I was in my teens. I've also been dealing with incontinence as an older adult. The moisture from wearing the pads and perspiring and no air circulation has really caused a problem in my groin area. I've tried using medicated powder, diaper rash cream, and other ways to keep it dry, but non of it seems to help. I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem or if anyone else just had any ideas about what else I could try?

  1. Thank you, Christine. I'll check out those links. And all my Dr. said was to use Hibaclens. It's the antiseptic soap your suppose to use when you take a shower before you have surgery. I'm going to try going back to using, as my sister jokingly calls them, the pull-up underwear. I didn't seem to have as much of a problem with the moisture in between my legs when I used them. But thank you for your support and have a good weekend.

    1. ugh, I'm sorry to hear that your doctor wasn't more helpful for this! Sometimes I think they just really don't understand, even if it's their "specialty". I hope that the underwear you mention ends up doing the trick for keeping things drier. If you're comfortable, please let us know. Have a nice weekend!

  2. , I'm so glad that you've reached out here, and I really hope you can get some helpful feedback from other community members here. I can hear what what problem dealing with both HS and moisture has been for you, and it really sounds like you've tried so many things already. I'm not sure if any of these would be options for you (or helpful for your particular situation), but I'm linking some information on home remedies and alternative therapies, https://hsdisease.com/home-remedies, https://hsdisease.com/alternative-treatment. There are things like tea tree oil or witch hazel that are mentioned that might be worth checking out. In addition to any tips or tricks here, have you reached out to your doctor about what you're experiencing? I ask only because sometimes doctors can prescribe creams or ointments that are stronger than any over-the-counter options and therefore might be more helpful. I do hope that you can find some relief! Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
