HS and bras

Hello everyone I am new here. Although I've been living with this for years, I was only diagnosed recently. Depression is starting to set in because of having to wear a bra. Most of my boils are in this area, making it even more painful. I am very large breasted so going without a bra is not an option. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or at least deal with the same issue? Thank you

  1. Thank you Christine. I have tried everything that you mention except the nursing pads. Thank you.

    1. you're welcome and I really hope you can find something that helps! Since I last touched base, I also found an article with some information from an advocate about her armpit flares. While I know it really isn't the same as that bra area, perhaps something mentioned could also be useful for the bra area? https://hsdisease.com/living/flare-tricks. And this article has some wound care hacks, https://hsdisease.com/living/wound-care-hacks. (Again, possibly all stuff you've already tried, but in case there's something new mentioned...)

Also, I wanted to check in with you about your emotional health. One of our advocates wrote a great article about some of her "mental health tools" that might interest you, https://hsdisease.com/living/mental-health-tools. We know that living with HS can be challenge both physically and mentally, and I hear you that this particular bra problem of yours has been causing some depressive feelings for you.

  2. Hello and welcome, ! I'm so glad that you found our community here, and appreciate you reaching out. First off, I just wanted to assure you that how you're feeling is something so many people here relate with and can understand. Living with HS can impact mental health and I can appreciate your situation with your boils in your bra area are really increasing depression. I'm not sure what all you've already tried, but one of our advocates suggested using nursing pads over the boils around the bra area and there are always gauze pads as an option too. Would you be able to try a wireless bra or sports bra? (If you haven't already.) I hope that some of our community members here can also chime in with any tips or tricks they've found helpful because I'm sure you're not the only person who has this same issue. Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
