Nursing Mothers and Topical Treatments

In various patient groups, I see a lot of discussion regarding what might be safe for nursing moms to use for flares, either open or closed. One of the most obvious suggestions is a hot pack or heating pad. What would be some other suggestions that wouldn't be harmful to a baby but still would be effective for a woman to use if she is experiencing lesions that are painful and she needs relief?

  1. I’m curious if your HS got worse after you gave birth? I’m using an antibacterial cream right now that has been safe for baby. But my flare ups have gotten so much worse.

    1. Hi! I think hormones play such a big part, and it's possible you might not experience relief until yours have leveled out. Full disclosure: I am not a mom! But I think it's a very important topic because it comes up so often. And I'm so sorry you are going through a big flare up while also trying to take care of your little one.
