Satisfying Snacks for Autoimmune Protocol Dieters

I love to snack. I might even snack more than I eat full meals. So changing my diet can be troublesome for me.

A new world of yummy foods

When I started the Autoimmune Protocol diet (AIP), I thought that was the end of snacking as I knew it. Then I found AIP chef influencers on Instagram, an account that directed me to companies that make AIP items. Being the researcher I am, I traveled down the rabbit hole and discovered a whole new world of clean, delicious AIP snacks that I couldn't keep to myself anymore.

AIP is a diet that helps people with chronic illnesses, like hidradenitis suppurativa disease, lower inflammation through the foods they consume. Reducing inflammation can help us manage some of the symptoms associated with our various diseases. It makes us hyper-aware of what we put in our bodies that might contribute to our discomfort.1

My favorite HS disease-friendly snacks

I swear by the diet because it helped me to reset my body. I can eat some of the foods I once eliminated, though I haven't added everything back into my diet. There are some things that I will never eat again, like red meat, pork, dairy, or yeast. However, let's get back to why we are here. Because I am an avid snacker, it's only fitting that I have a list of go-to snacks that make me feel like hidradenitis suppurativa isn't taking everything from me! So, I want to share them with you.

Artisan Tropics Plantain and Cassava Strips

I discovered Artisan Tropics while shopping at Whole Foods. I can't eat potatoes, so yucca and plantains are the next best starchy anti-inflammatory foods. Various dishes utilize them, but nothing beats these beauties as a savory, salty, crispy snack. I found these delicious alternatives while indulging in Caribbean, Cuban, and Puerto Rican cuisines.

Eat G.A.N.G.S.T.E.R.

The AIP girls swear by this brand as an excellent alternative for anyone with a mean sweet tooth. Based on the reviews, they will deliver some of the most satisfying, gut-friendly, and inflammation-free desserts you've ever had. While I haven't indulged, rest assured they are on their way to my crib as I type. If you want to try this brand, they have pancakes, cookies, cupcakes, and banana bread. Oh, and they also have a frosting mix, too. What more can you ask for?

Made in Nature Dried Fruit, specifically dried mangoes

There was a time when I was addicted to dried mangoes. Real bad. They had me in such a chokehold that I considered buying a monthly subscription. Thank God I didn't because my fixation dwindled. I don't love dried mangoes, but I often get fixated on a particular food, eat it darn near every day, and then one day my body is like, well, that's enough of that.

Despite my weird eating habits, dried mangoes, mainly Made in Nature dried mangoes, are tender, delicious, and sweet. Other brands can be bitter, hard, and chewy, but Made in Nature has some of the best quality control. It helps to curb any cravings for cake. I should eat these again.

What are your favorite AIP snacks?

I never thought I could enjoy following the AIP diet, but I have found many foods that meet the requirements while still supporting my snacking lifestyle. Do you have any favorite AIP-friendly snacks? If so, feel free to share them in the comments.
