A pair of underwear boxers

Product Review: MeUndies

If you are like me, you are forever searching for underwear and/or pajama and lounge shorts that don’t irritate flares or cause new ones. With all sorts of styles, cuts, fabrics, and subscription services to choose from it can be very overwhelming AND pretty costly to try and find something that works for you! In an effort to save you some hassle, I’ve gone ahead and tried a whole host of products so I can review them right here for you fine folk. Today on the docket we’ve got American company MeUndies - an underwear subscription service that claims to have “the softest underwear in the world”. Let’s put them to the test!

MeUndies allows you to choose a style and fabric (either the ‘original’ fabric or something called ‘FeelFree’ which is supposed to be even softer) of underwear and each month you will be sent a new pattern of that style and fabric in the mail, or you can choose not to sign up for the membership and just buy a pair on their own. They have ‘Womens’ styles and ‘Mens’ styles so they aren’t gender-inclusive with their language (something that I, as a nonbinary person, look for) but they came highly recommended by my sister who also has HS, so I decided to give them a go.

What I like about MeUndies

The ‘Women’ underwear comes in 9 different styles: Hipster, Thong, Lace Thong, Lace Tanga, Bikini, Lace Bikini, Boy short, Cheeky Brief, and High-waisted brief. All the styles except the ones with lace can be purchased in the original or FeelFree fabric. The ‘Men’ underwear comes in Boxers, Boxer Briefs, Boxer Briefs with a fly, Long boxer briefs with a fly, Trunk, and Brief. All of the ‘Men’ underwear come in the original fabric. There are DOZENS of patterns and colors, and they are always adding new ones and partnering with new brands. At the time of writing this article, they’ve just released a line of Harry Potter ones that are absolutely adorable!

In terms of sizing, they are fairly inclusive, going from a size XS to a size 4XL. They have a clear sizing guide available online which made it easy to shop, and from the guidelines they give you and from the fit of the products I ordered themselves, they fit true to size. I am usually a large in ‘Womens’ clothing and the large fit my waist and hips perfectly.

I ordered a size large in the Women's boyshorts in the original fabric. I chose a cute pattern with a light blue background covered in a print of a platypus. There were a TON of cute options, as well as standard block colors which I really enjoyed as well all know you need those darker colors for days when things are leaking. The ordering process was simple and the site is fairly user-friendly. Women's underwear costs $18 a pair ($14 if you sign up for a membership) and Men's underwear costs $24 a pair ($16 if you have a membership).

Now, however, come the cons...

The shipping took AGES (which I’ve been told has only started since the pandemic slowed mail down, so maybe it will improve). I waited 5 weeks when it should have only taken 2. I was however able to track my shipment. When I finally got the package I was so excited as I had just had a lesion pop up on my inner thigh and I was dying for something soft and cozy to wear while I moped on the couch, but that is not unfortunately what happened.

While the fabric is definitely soft,  it is not breathable at all. I was sweating within the hour and I hadn’t even been moving around. The worst part, however, was the seams. The seams that run around the bottom of the leg holes and the seams that stitch the crotch together are THICK and very uncomfortable for where my lesions are. I have lesions all over my inner thighs, the line where the leg meets the pelvis, and on the outside of my genitals. These seams sat right on top of the flares on my inner thighs when I had them sitting where they were supposed to, but the legs also rolled up and sat right in the crease of my leg which was also very painful. They rolled up CONSTANTLY. Even when I wasn’t walking around and was just laying on the couch they would roll up every time I moved my legs even an inch, which was uncomfortable in its own right.

Overall, I think a better option for me would have been to purchase the Men's boxers if I wanted a lounge short, but as underwear, these were just a no-go. Back to the drawing board!
